A Bit About SteadiRiba
Alex Somarriba is a seasoned camera operator specializing in Steadicam and underwater cinematography, known for his ability to capture dynamic, immersive visuals across narrative, commercial, and documentary productions. With more than a decade of on-set experience, Alex brings precision, creativity, and technical mastery to every frame he helps craft.
A graduate of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics, Alex began his career as a camera assistant and digital image technician, where he developed an expert understanding of data management, focus pulling, and image integrity. His technical foundation quickly evolved into a passion for movement and composition, leading him to pursue advanced training as a Tiffen-certified Steadicam operator and SDI-certified underwater diver and camera operator.
From high-energy music videos and live broadcasts to emotionally charged narrative films, Alex’s work blends artistry and technical precision — delivering shots that are both cinematic and seamless. His experience spans underwater systems such as HydroFlex and STO Gates, as well as complex Steadicam sequences and specialized rigs, including Techno 22 and Jib operations.
Driven by a deep respect for the craft and a collaborative spirit, Alex continues to explore new ways to merge technology and storytelling — creating imagery that not only moves the camera, but also moves the audience.
